Generating Color Blindness Test Images with Processing

My wife recently observed my two-year-old son eating green strawberries and is now curious if he has some kind of red-green color blindness. Unfortunately, he is not yet able to give us the name of numbers, so the commonly used Ishihara test images won’t do. Well, I thought it´s a nice idea for this rainy Sunday afternoon to generate some of those images myself. Instead of numbers I used simple images of things I knew my son is able to name. If you like, find the source files here. The icons are taken from thenounproject.

International Aid Flows (a first look)

I just got a new data set on international aid flows. This is my first look at it, showing the sum of 110,742 donations since 1960. Donors are white, recipients are red. Pretty complex, I think.

Energy Production vs. Energy Consumption

That was my Processing exercise for tonight:

red circle = energy consumption
yellow circle = energy production
y-position = consumption / production

Inspired by David McCandless

Roter Kreis = Energieverbrauch
Gelber Kreis = Energieproduktion
Vertikale Position = Verbrauch / Produktion

Some Charts on German Party Donations (1994-2008)

To be able to provide some contextual information for the coming visualizations on german party donations I manually scraped the total party donations for each year. As usual I instantly started to visualize the data, even though it’s merely done with OpenOffice..

Total Party Donations (in Mio €)

Corporate Party Donations (in Mio. €)

Private Party Donations (in Mio. €)

Party Donations per Party Member (in €)

Party Taxes (in Mio €)

Ratio of Corporate Donations vs. Private Donations

Parteispenden gesamt (in Mio €)

Parteispenden von juristischen Personen (in Mio. €)

Parteispenden je Parteimitglied (in €)

Mandatsträgerbeiträge (in Mio €)

Spendenverhätnis natürlich vs. juristische Personen
